Busy Weekend

This weekend was full of activity for us. Friday night we attended the Camerata Awards at the U where Dave's Grandma Lennox Larson Deem was being honored for all of her contributions to the Music Department. It is a very prestigious award and we are so proud of her. She is an amazingly talented woman! The night started with a really nice dinner and award presentation and ended with a concert featuring many of the musical groups in the department. It was a nice event. We were joking the whole night that we felt very "high society".

Here is the unveiling of the portrait of Lennox that will now hang in Gardner Hall, not to be confused with the younger portrait of her that already hangs in the piano department.

Immediately following the awards we drove down to St. George with Adam and some friends to meet up with Dave's Dad Ted for something I have been looking forward to for a long time... The Journey concert in Las Vegas!!! Journey is my favorite band and I've always wanted to see them in concert. They just got a new lead singer named Arnel Pineda and his story is amazing... He's from the Philippines and had a very rough upbringing, at one time he was even homeless sleeping in a park. He started a little band called the Zoo Band that performed in bars in the Phillipines. Journey's last lead singer had to quit due to medical reasons so they were looking for a replacement when they stumbled on a clip of Pineda singing one of their songs on Utube. They immediately called him and offered him the lead! It was so fun seeing him in concert because it's like witnessing someone's dreams coming true. You can tell by watching him how happy he is. His vocals are incredible too! He is definitely fun to watch! The concert was filmed for a DVD so they put on quite the show. Plus at the end the announced that they had to re-do a couple of songs so we got an extended concert. It was incredible! If you like journey you should go to youtube and see if you can find any Journey 2008 clips from their live shows.

Before the concert we spent the day in nice sunny Vegas shopping and checking out the sights, and we had a fabulous dinner at Cheesecake Factory, yummy! The next day Ted, Dave and I went golfing at the St. George Country club. It was such a fun weekend! Thanks Ted!!!

Here's a slide show of the trip... Press play and use the arrows to go from page to page, Dave wanted me to clarify in case people couldn't figure it out ha ha
