Nora joined our family on Thursday August 25th via c-section. As I mentioned before she was breech and they were worried about the placement of the cord so we decided c-section was the safest option. I am so glad we did too because she had the cord wrapped around her neck when they delivered her which could've been dangerous if we tried a normal delivery. The c-section was definitely a different experience. It is kinda bizarre since you are awake and just chatting with people as they are cutting open your insides and the next thing you know your baby is out. I got pretty sick from the anesthetics so they gave me some anti-nausea meds that made me pretty loopy the first day (yes Dave has blackmail video of me slurring my words and falling asleep mid sentence) My recovery has definitely been slower and harder than with a normal delivery but I am surviving thanks to my Mom who has been taking care of me and my girls this week. I don't know what I would do without her!!!
When she came out Nora's blood sugars were a little low (which is normal when the Mom is a Diabetic) so they took her down to the NICU to stabilize them. Once they had her there they ran some tests and her white blood cell count was slightly elevated which can be a sign of infection so they started her on antibiotics. To be honest we were not thrilled that they did since her next test results showed no infection but since they had already started the antibiotics they had to continue them. The NICU has great intentions but I think sometimes they are way too overly cautious. Little did they know that Nora has a father in med school, a grandpa who is a doctor and multiple nurses in her family who knew what the tests results meant and disagreed with the treatment plan. We were nice about it but we definitely made it clear that we wanted her off the antibiotics and out of the NICU as soon as possible (the antibiotic they chose to use can have some nasty side effects) The thing that made me mad is that they didn't even ask our permission before starting the antibiotics. Nora ended up having to stay in the NICU for 2 days. It was sad not having her with us. Luckily we could go visit her and hold her whenever we wanted but since I was recovering from a c-section I couldn't get down there as much as I would've liked. Anyways, enough of my ranting... We are just glad that she is healthy though and are so happy to have her home.
one last belly shot
waiting to go in to surgery
Dave took some pretty graphic pics (yes we have a picture of my placenta in a tray...gross) I won't share them all but I thought this one was cool. Can you see her little bum? :)
making her debut
In the recovery room minutes before I started vomitting like crazy (TMI?) and Nora got whisked away to the nicu
The first night Hailey came to visit. Nora was still in the nicu so she didn't get to meet her yet. The next time she came and got to meet her but she wanted nothing to do with Nora or with me. It broke my heart a little. She wouldn't even look at me! Now that we are home she is coming around to the idea of having a little sister.
We are a family of 4...crazy!
Thanks for all our visitors and thanks to both our families for taking care of Hailey.

I am totally swooning, this almost makes me baby hungry again! You look WAAAAY too good in all of your hospital pictures, they are all so beautiful- and Halle was the exact same way with me and Carter, didn't want a thing to do with us. Looking back, I probably should have enjoyed that I little more! So glad that Norah is home safe and sound and that you are doing well, you sure have beautiful girls!
Wow, can I say beautiful!! She is perfect. Seriously one of the most beautiful newborns I have ever seen!! So glad with a few bumps she is home safe and you are doing well, thank goodness for moms/grandma's!! Johnny did the same thing visiting the hospital, he pretended like he couldn't even hear me talking. Love the reality check!! :) keep posting---such cute girls!
Nat, this was so fun to see. You look absolutely gorgeous and it's amazing to see that huge smile on your face the whole way through. might I add Nora is BEAUTIFUL! congrats!!!
She is absolutely gorgeous! I'm so glad she is safe and sound at home. I totally agree with you on the whole drs and nurses making rash decisions when it totally isn't necessary to do so. They could have waited 15 more minutes to start her on an antibiotic, and consulted with you first. I would have been livid. Anyway, she is wonderful. Congratulations!
Congrats Dave and Nat! So happy for you guys. She is so beautiful. Im glad she didnt have to be in the NICU any longer than she did. I hear you about the NICU being a little too overly cautious. When Tyler was born, they kept him for a week, and you know they are just being careful by keeping them, but it doesnt make it any easier on the Mom! :) Im so glad she is okay and healthy. Enjoy every minute with her!
Nora is a beautiful baby!!! (I'm not just throwing that out there. Not every new baby is as pretty as Nora at first! Wow, she's a doll!) Eliza didn't want anything to do with me or Isaac when he was born either. She was always somewhat disapproving and aggressive towards him. She got better, but I could never leave him alone with her for a second. Funny thing is, she had a hard time when Ada was born too. I guess she just has a hard time sharing all of the attention. I doubt Hailey will be like that (let's hope). I guess I'm trying to say, I can relate and it's normal. . .I think. :) Congrats!
I love how your hair looks perfect in all of this pictures. You kill me! Congrats Nat!
1. You look incredible.
2. That shot in the delivery room is amazing. Birth is such a miracle.

i'm so glad everything went so well. nora is such a sweetheart, i can tell :)
Placenta in a tray... I'm laughing my butt off, Nats! I love the play-by-play of Nora's birth. You'll be so glad that you wrote your true emotions as they happened. Your pictures are gorgeous and Nora looks just like her MOMMY! Glad you are recovering well and that Nora is doing well. Please give Hailey a big hug from me. Congrats! You have a beautiful family:) Love you!
